Esentaye

One important tradition in Yoruba culture is the Esentaye ceremony. This is a ceremony that is performed between three days of a childbirth to determine the future undertakings of a child after birth. At this ceremony the particular ancestor a child reincarnated from would be known. Either from the mother or from the father side. Matters such as the type of Orisha or religion the child should embrace will be determined. Also there may be special taboos assigned from heaven, the career path and many more would be revealed right there .

Eegun Ile eni ni gbe ni, Orisa idile eni laa sin.

A child worships other people’s deity. He banished those that belong to him. They despise their heritage and offers sacrifices to foreign deities.

One can only receive a full support and favors from one’s deity .
